Volunteer with us
The Open Gardens organisation is run by a team of volunteers, who donate their time, energy and expertise to build and manage the best program of events that we can. Without our enthusiastic and talented volunteers, we wouldn’t have the opportunity to enjoy visiting private gardens – why don’t you join the team?
Volunteering with us can be as flexible as you like. You can choose to do regular or occasional days, or get together with friends and organise a whole weekend. Just let us know how you might like to be involved.
- Help out at the ticket gate for our openings and events
- Organise an event – get some friends together and run an event or a weekend opening, or support our organisers
- Become a garden selector – see our How it Works page for more information
- Join the catering team
- Provide your specialist expertise such as event management, publicity, website maintenance or suggest something new to our committee
- Read our Code of Conduct for volunteers by clicking here
Open your garden
Garden Owners generously offer to share their gardens with visitors, along with their expertise, to share their enjoyment of gardening. Garden visitors love to talk to the garden owners and hear the special stories and experiences that went into building and maintaining their garden.
We provide help with arranging insurance, advertising, apply for relevant council approvals for the event itself, and provide you with help on the day for the gate. We also have a catering team that may be available.
It is a great opportunity for garden owners to raise money for their favourite charity, donate their share of the gate takings to the charity, and by involving the charity in providing refreshments and the sale of Raffle tickets.
