Adel Sen is a 2 hectare property designed by owner, Tony Williams, to include the best of two styles – native and exotic. While it is still a little early in the year to have much colour, the bones of the garden and the skeletons of the trees have their own beauty with the early spring buds, and flowers on the Prunus.
The garden was planned over 20 years ago, and the design remained unchanged while the garden was developed. Tony has opened his garden five times to share the journey building his dream garden, with the last time in 2012. It is coming to fruition with mature trees, and interesting plants and features filling the space.
A Ring Road well within the property boundary divides the original native bush from the Ornamental gardens, and provides a backdrop for it in all directions. Around the house the garden is designed in a Northern European style, including a water feature, large mature Azaleas, Camellias and Roses. In early spring the main colour will be in the Flowering Plums, Azaleas and Rhapheolepsis.
The original plans and designs, as well as an extensive journal will be on display. Tony has noted every detail of the plantings, pruning and fertiliser regime, which not only reminds him what he needs to do, but helps ensure that future gardeners will know how to pick up where he left off.
There is extensive infrastructure, including a fernery building, retaining walls, and an ornamental grape arbour.
Talks: Tony will give a talk about the planning and maintenance of the garden at 11.00am and 2.00 pm.
