Perth Garden Festival

May 6 - May 9

Showcasing Open Garden’s inaugural Show Garden at this year’s Perth Garden Festival at Langley Park, 6th to 9th May.
We teamed up with the Landscape Industries Association (WA) and their student group ‘Next Gen’.
Student studying Certificate IV in Landscape Design and Certificate IV in Horticulture  participated in the construction of the show garden.
The build was undertaken under the watchful eye of landscape lecturer Lisa Hall, South Metropolitan TAFE students, in conjunction with the LIAWA NextGen initiative and Matthew Lunn.

Opportunities such as the construction of the ‘Open Gardens West Coast’ show garden allows students to further practice and exercise their learned skills and knowledge in rewarding ‘real world’ environments.

Excursions and practical activities outside of a TAFE setting provide students with a further context for their in-class learning, whilst industry directed events create new opportunities for students to develop long-lasting connections with industry professionals.

Lisa said “The experience so far has been wonderful, with our student groups having already learned lots of new skills specific to the design and installation of landscape display gardens.”

SMTAFE offers a Certificate IV qualification in Landscape Design and Certificate II, III, IV, and Diploma qualifications in Horticulture as well as Conservation and Land Management. For further information about the courses on offer at SMTAFE, members of the community can contact our customer service team via info@smtafe.wa.edu.au or phone 1800 001 001.

Both our students and lecturers eagerly await the unveiling of the show garden at the Perth Garden Festival beginning on the 6th of May 2021.
