About Linden Gardens
Linden Gardens is a relaxed haven where chooks, edibles and predominantly native plants are lovingly tended. The curved driveway leads past fruit trees behind a small lawn with local sculpture, follow the meandering path by the large shaded chook pen. The lucky chickens are allowed regularly into the garden and lawn (under very careful supervision!)
Continuing on past the heavenly scent of white and pink brugmansias, leads into the intensive kitchen garden. Raised vegie wicking beds feature in this area which has to creatively contend with winter shade and hot summer sun. Fruit trees include quince, mangoes, fig, pomegranate, citrus, avocadoes and mulberry. This attractive sustainable garden has been designed by Garden Deva with beauty, habitat and food growing as the main priorities.
Situated alongside a main road, the owners have created a feeling of seclusion and sanctuary, blocking traffic noise and gaining privacy with plantings. The feeling of enclosure is achieved with large overhanging trees and shade tolerant natives which create a tranquil mood, clucking hens in the background. Copses of mallee eucalypts surround the gravel firepit area, which is the perfect spot for a bit of R and R, while watching the fish and birdlife. Interesting textural foliage and garden rooms divide the space into edible, native and some exotic plantings. Apart from growing as much food as is practical, this lovely garden aims to encourage biodiversity, attract butterflies and provide habitat for local frogs.
