About Friends Garden

Stepping down the aged timber steps from the road, the shady and inviting entrance is an interesting blend of native and exotic plants which informally frame the front lawn.  Look carefully to find the creative pieces amongst the shrubs.  Mixed plantings throughout the garden include roses, flowering perennials and natives.  Shade-loving plants are tucked into sheltered spaces and pots add interest to paved areas and decking.

The gate to the side of the yard opens out into a paved area with a grape vine covered pergola. Created by Dennis and providing shade in summer and sunlight in winter, this is a lovely entertaining area where Julie is able to showcase her potted plants.   Around the corner, vegetables and herbs grow happily amongst sun loving annuals and perennials. Tip toe across the stepping stones to find the hidden fernery and frog pond.

Retrace your steps to find the stairs to the terraced area that takes you to a grotto-like scene – so unexpected in a suburban backyard. Hear the gentle trickling of the waterfall that drops several meters into a koi pond in the bottom of the yard.
